FLINT, MI — It’s sweet corn season in Michigan.

With heaps of the golden yellow crop now appearing at farmers’ markets, roadside stands and grocery stores throughout the region, some residents have taken to social media to ask where they can find the best sweet corn. Well, MLive has you covered.

Whether you like it grilled, roasted, slathered with butter, on the cob or off the cob, here are a dozen places to find farm-fresh sweet corn in and around Genesee, Lapeer, Bay and Saginaw counties:

Located at 14467 Morrish Road in Montrose Township, produce is grown on the farm and picked fresh daily. It’s open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily from mid-July to October.

The farm sells tomatoes, cucumbers, pickles, squash, and melons at two locations besides its home base: a Montrose location at 8366 Vienna (M-57) Road, between Marshall and Morrish roads, and a Swartz Creek location at 6234 Lennon Road, between Elms and Dye roads.

Polzin Farms accepts both cash and credit card payments.

Located at 2115 E. Stanley Road in Mt. Morris, people can either buy sweet corn at its home location or visit the Davison Farmers Market, 8110 E. Court St.

Besides the sweet corn, pickling cucumbers, Michigan hot Hungarian peppers, jalapeños, red peppers and sweet banana peppers are also available.

The farm accepts both cash and credit card payments and is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

Next year, it will celebrate its 150th anniversary.

Eichelberg Farm has been around since 1978, and this sweet corn farm is located at 11154 Linden Road in Fenton Township.

The farm, owned by farmer Dwight Eichelberg, spans 38 acres of the countryside and offers some of the best sweet corn available in Michigan.

Its signature super sweet corn is picked fresh daily from the field followed by tomatoes and pumpkins. Also available are green beans, squash and peppers.

His farm is open Sunday through Friday, but closed on Saturdays due to the Christian observance of the Sabbath. Business hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Cash and credit card payments are accepted.

Eichelberg once taught Flint native and actor Terry Crews in high school.

Located at 3199 N. Lapeer Road in Lapeer, Fick Farms has been farming in the local community of Lapeer and serving the mid-Michigan area for nearly 100 years.

The farm sells everything from sweet corn, tomatoes, blueberries, cantaloupe, onions, green peppers, and local honey. In the fall, it offers hay rides, corn maze, and a U-pick pumpkin patch.

Business hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Walker Farms got its start in 1953. It has over five acres of greenhouses and mainly focuses its efforts on flower and vegetable plant sales.

The farm, located at 5253 E. Atherton Road in Burton, spans over 180 acres. Sweet corn is in demand right now at this location, but the farm sells a variety of other foods such as tomatoes, green beans, squash, cucumbers, onion, blueberries, peaches, cauliflower and melons.

The farm accepts cash and credit card payments. Business hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Located at 9197 Gale Road in Goodrich, Weil Dairy Farm is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

The farm specializes strictly in sweet corn and does not sell other vegetables. Both cash and credit card payments are accepted.

Starrs Lakeview Farms, 15586 Linden Road in Linden, is a seasonal farm market specializing in corn and pumpkins.

People can purchase sweet corn, tomatoes, watermelon, cantaloupe, zucchini, yellow squash, peppers, sweet candy onions and red onions, cucumbers, pickling cucumbers, new and redskin potatoes, radishes, green beans, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, basil, dill, mint and fresh-cut flower bouquets.

The farms accepts cash or check only.

The Heinz Farm Market is a summertime staple in Bay County. The market is located at 1026 N. Knight Road in Essexville, right at the intersection of Knight Road and M-25, or West Center Road.

This family-run stand’s fresh sweet corn is brought in daily from neighboring fields by tractor for hungry customers.

The stand also features fresh Bay City melons, also called honeyrocks, as well as watermelons, tomatoes, cucumbers, peaches, onions, potatoes and more throughout the summer. Heinz also sells fresh local honey from the nearby LaFrenier’s Orchard. The stand proudly advertises that the bees that make this honey are the same ones that help pollinate their crops.

The Heinz stand is usually open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day and accepts cash only. The stand regularly posts updates on what’s available and what’s ready throughout the growing season on its Facebook page.

Munch’s Produce is another family-run stand located in Bay County’s Essexville, just down the road from the Heinz Farm Market stand. The Munch family is currently bringing in loads of fresh sweet corn each day at the 445 W. Center Road stand.

Much’s stand also sells fresh goods such as tomatoes, zucchini, summer squash, potatoes, cucumbers, pickles and onions.

The stand is cash only, and a self-serve box is usually set up. The stand is usually open throughout the day until 7:30 p.m. or so.

A portion of the stand’s proceeds go to the local VA to support area veterans.

The VanOoteghem stand is located at 285 W. Center Road, just east on M-25 from the Heinz and Munch stands. These neighboring Essexville stands all have their loyal customers and are frequented by dedicated locals.

In addition to fresh sweet corn, the VanOoteghem stand has plenty of other fresh vegetables for sale, including pickling cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower and more.

During the spring, VanOoteghem’s also sells beautiful flowers and perennials, including roses, out of their greenhouse. Visitors to the greenhouse are sometimes treated to a friendly hello from Olivia, the beloved resident orange tabby cat.

The summertime produce stand is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and cash is preferred. Follow the farm’s Facebook for more information on their offerings.

Moving over to southern Bay County, Paul’s Produce is a popular hotspot for sweet corn. The farm is located at 1775 Cass Ave. in Bay City.

A local favorite is Paul’s Produce’s super sweet “peaches ‘n cream” corn as well as its ripe honey rocks.

During the spring, the farm is a popular place for U-pick strawberries. In the fall, Paul’s Produce always has a bountiful assortment of pumpkins and squash for purchase. The farm is popular with canners since they offer bulk deals on things like pickling cucumbers.

Paul’s Produce is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and they take cash or card. The farm also makes an appearance at local markets including the Midland Area Farmers Market to sell its goods.

Saginaw County’s Brandt Farm Co., formerly Hemmeter’s Farm Market, at 4050 Lawndale Road in Saginaw Township, is another place to buy fresh sweet corn this summer. Although the farm’s owners, Ben and Sarah Brandt, don’t grow corn on site, they sell corn from other area farmers and grow plenty of other things.

Their farm store sells fresh produce and flowers. Customers can also expect to find honey, maple syrup, jams, skin care products, snacks and other locally made and Michigan-made products. The store accepts cash or card payment. Current hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day except Wednesday, when it is closed all day.
